The Elefantes included
Martin Dihigo (sitting, fourth from left) in addition to other Negro Leaguers and stars such as
Max Manning,
Luis "Lefty" Tiant Sr.,
Alejandro Crespo and Alejandro Carrasquel.
That season belonged to Almendares and Habana, the Eternal Rivals who waged a memorable battle for the pennant, including a
climatic three-game series swept by Alendares to win the championship.
