Nov. 10: On this date in 1919, Cuban League star Avelino Cañizares was born in Havana.Elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997, Cañizares played nine seasons with Almendares between 1942-54.
Cañizares was a mainstay at shortstop for Almendares as the team won Cuban League pennant in 1944-45, 1946-47, 1948-49 and 1949-50.
